The summer just keeps getting hotter in the Carolinas, as we introduce Pop Gates. Most may know him from the multi-talented group, PopNBulletz, Pop is one of the hottest MCs the Carolinas have to offer. Pop has the lyrics, beats, and determination to be one of the industries greats. We sit down with him and chop it up on subjects from his Brooklyn up bringing to working with Rick Ross on their Carolina Classic "Whip It Hard". Enjoy
CAD: Tell us a little about Pop Gates.
POP: ... I can go all day on this topic but u might know me from the group POPNBULLETZ I have the internet going crazy...I have 2 singles out right now one called GET BACK 2 THE MONEY and my other
with single called "Purp and Lean" with lil flip both produced by trackbangas...I DID SONGS WITH RICKROSS FREEWAY W.C. AND ALOT MORE...Growing up in the sometimes insane streets of BROOKLYN (BUSHWICK) New York City, Definitely had its effects, I started rhyming and didn’t look back since. I
moved to Charlotte N.C. and soon began rocking the mic at local events in the area. Sharpening my skills and killing MC's in Dozens of Freestyle Contests has been my MO For the last couple of years. My reputation for sharp Punch Lines has led to many Emcee demise on the stage at countless Freestyle
Events. (POPNBULLETZ) After making The Source "off da radar" the combo of POPNBULLETZ is locking the streetz from block to block, with the buzz growin with street single "Whip it real hard" feat. Rick Ross.Pop-Gates (Brooklyn) born and Young Bulletz (L.A.) born plans to lock the streetz from coast to
coast. Our Unique individual styles come together to form a sound like no other out today. POPNBULLETZ stand poised to take the hood by storm with their mix of street wise lyrics and up tempo deliveries.
CAD: Who were some of your early influences?
POP: ... I always loved hip hop growing
up...I just love good music..but the artist that influences me the most was
NOTORIOUS BIG...RIP BIGGIE what else can I say "I’m so Brooklyn"
CAD: What is your advice for young artists in the Carolinas?
POP: ...Grind hard and
take No dayz off...make good music and don’t let nobody stop your
dreams...keep billionaire dreams...EVERYBODY CANT BE A RAPPER SAVE SOME ROOM
FOR THE FANS... I been in million dollar studios and on tours with your
favorite rappers trust me I know
CAD: How were you able to secure major artist features on your records?
POP: ...I think
the biggest part of the game is not what u know but its more who u know...if
u have good connects anything can happen but of course u have to have
money...get your team strong and everything else is a go...u can always make
plans but it’s all in God's hands
CAD: What is your process for making a song, from selecting the beat to
mastering the finished copy?
POP: ...Well I always have beats because I have a
group of producers that work with me (shout out trackbangas) music to me is
all about feeling u should never rush a song...then I gotta smoke about it
lol (kush in the air) than the hook have to be crazy...after that get to
work in the booth...I say 30 mins later it’s a done deal than time to get
mixed and mastered
CAD: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
POP: ... I see myself in 5 years*...Sitting on
top of the world!!!! they can’t stop me I only can stop myself
CAD: You have a heavy presence online. How important has the Internet been in
your career?
POP: ... (20,000 followers twitter) the internet had been important for
me it’s the best way to network I want to thank everybody that show me
support on the internet...I have over 60,000 cds in the street but I have
touched 10 times that amount world wide...shout out 2 dj pimp he got my
mixtapes poppin in France I’m blessed I’m in the best shape of my life right now
CAD: Have you collaborated with any other Carolina artists?
POP: ...shout out all the
DJ'S in the Carolinas keep up the good work...u already know...I got songs
with a lot of Carolina artists MOEDIAMONDZ SONNY RICH SDUB SMALL WORLD RICKY
RUCKUS AND MORE IF I FORGOT U...I GOT U...SHOUT OUT 2 THE WHOLE
CAROLINAS...I have awards in my house from ncuma and Carolina music

think...I’m working solo and bulletz working solo but it’s always going to be
POPNBULLETZ 4 LIFE its more than music! WE CAME ALONG WAY MY GROUP IS THE

CAD: What projects are you currently working on?
POP: ...Right now I’m working on my new
mixtape called "NO DAYZ OFF" I just dropped a mixtape tape called
"billionaire dreams" and "the grand finale" feat labba u can Google those I’m
also working on a mixtape project with LIL FLIP that will be coming soon and
new POPNBULLETZ mixtapes...I have the streets going crazy with my single
called "PURP AND LEAN" AND "GET BACK 2 THE MONEY"
